Here at the Bulldog, if you are easily offended, you might be misplaced. However, we have faith in your durability. After all, a taste for premium tobacco requires a strong constitution and a higher level of discernment. So come along, and watch “how the sausage gets made.” For all of you who may not know, running a business is no easy task. That is largely thanks to a sea of rules, taxes, and regulations set forth by an ever-increasing, ever-greedy, ever-liberty-and-economy-crushing bureaucracy…and of course the folks to vote for such a system. This is particularly poignant to those of us in the tobacco industry. Ours is an industry that is ceaselessly maligned, heavily taxed, bullied, banned, and silenced. Certain state laws render us far less competitive than other states. Federal laws render us as children instead of adults capable of making our own decisions. Local government sticks its hand in our pockets at every turn. Any contrived fee it can come up with it takes more money from us.
We are going to make it. I think. It’s just that we are…Taking the Scenic Route.
Food for thought: Over 12% of our budget has been eaten up simply for permits from government. You know what a permit/license is? It is extortion at its finest. Government makes an activity illegal, then sells back to you the right to engage in that activity (which you should already have the right to engage in) They say politics is a third rail that cannot be touched in polite culture. Well here at the Bulldog, politics is what dictates How, When, Where, and for What Price we can serve you, our good customers. Which means Our families’ livlihoods are subject to the whims of who sits in various elected offices and un-elected bureaucratic positions– all funded by our own hard work. What Coeur d’ Alene says, goes. Boise says, goes. What D.C. says, goes. We get no say. It is ludicrous, but that’s the current system. So yes, we think it is very important to challenge people to think about the full real-life ramifications of their ideological & political beliefs & actions.
Off the soapbox for now.
It is not all doom & gloom. We are indeed still making (slow but sure) progress, though we have hit a patch of “hurry up and wait” at the moment. We ask for your continued patience and support throughout our transition phase.
Meanwhile, the shop is still improving daily. New products, reloading on old classics, and still offering the excellent service you’ve come to enjoy. We just received a fresh batch of Hookahs and humidors, so come take a look!
Product Highlights this week include the Punch Rare Corojo, E.P. Carrillo’s Top 25 List making La Historia line, and Rocky Patel’s popular Super Ligero cigars. All currently in stock, and waiting for you to give them a try!
Alrighty my friends, that is all for now. Keep your ears to the ground and your eyes on the horizon; After once we get settled in the lounge we are setting our sights on going into Boise and lobbying to lower the premium cigar (and possibly pipe tobacco as well) taxes. We will be counting on you all to voice your support not just with us, but your state legislators as well. More info on that movement in future posts. Until next time, guard your personal liberties, fight the good fight, and smoke a good smoke.
